Stay up to date on Volcanic Ash problems

The European Commission, and EASA, the European Aviation Safety Agency, have been working with all kinds of stakeholders in the last month to come up with a strategy for dealing with volcanic ash. After a volcano in Iceland erupted earlier this year, hundreds of thousands of travelers were stranded all over the world because European airspace was closed down.
Surprising as it was, there were no real protocols in place and each country dealt with the problem in their own way. One hour airports would be open and people would rush there to get a flight, only to find that the airport was closed again when they got there. It was chaos everywhere. Many people missed important appointments, weddings – including their own, funerals; some people missed their whole vacation because the closures dragged on so long.
The new guidelines will certainly be welcomed by travelers as the ash is expected to cause disruptions on and off for many months to come.
